Ok folks, I wanted today to draw your attention to an old pedal built by Boss code name “DF2″ and alternatively “Super Distortion & Feedbacker” & “Super feedbacker distortion” sold on the market between 1984 and 1994. The colour of its distortion is based on a more-than-ever classic “DS1″ but it features a rare option, i.e the feedbacker side of the pedal. (now I’m sure you get the idea of the name and everything
). The idea is simple, controlling the feedback of your amp, the dream of any stage-guitarist.
How does it work ? Well folks, pedal off, distortion is off and when you push one time the pedal, distortion is on. Well, yes the distortion won’t be of the taste of those in the back, but I can tell you they are producing various sounds according to their country of origin (produced in Japan then Taiwan) and their date of production. In 10 years of production the quality of the components had quite the time to change. And please, don’t believe the hype that says, oh well japan is good and taiwan production is crap. It’s all wrong. Mine is from Taiwan, and the sustainer effect is smoothier than every japanese pedal ever tried.
So, yes, don’t push me,but I’m coming to the Thing : the sustainer fx. While plucking a note if you keep your foot down, there goes the sustainer effect with a nice and gentle variation. The fourth button on the pedal controls the overtone effect. The drawback of the feedbacker is that you can’t really dose the distortion on it, so the basic pedal has a very specific color and tone so you may need another od/distortion pedal anyway.
Removing the distortion on the feedbacker is though possible but you need to send it over for modification to geargeeks like TFXS in France or “The doctor is in” in the USA. I’ve personaly sent the pedal to TFXS and he has cleaned up the distortion canal for the feedbacker and what’s more he has added a tiny button to have the choice among three different sounds. You can now choose between a typical valve sound to a more agressive and edgy sound. Brilliant !
It’s a shame fellows but Boss stopped the production a while ago and now these little treasures go for 100$ on ebay. I can asure you, it’s worth its price.
